Hosting Opportunity: Volunteer Interns (1 to 3 months)

When: Year-round, 1 to 3 months

Who: Open to families in the Portland area

Where: Volunteering at local non-profits 20-30 hours per week

Student Nationalities & Ages: Interns (ages 18-30) from Europe

Through ANDEO's volunteer internship program, we invite college-age students and young adults (18-30) to volunteer for a non-profit organization in the greater Portland area. Interns volunteer 20-30 hours per week and look forward to spending their free time with their host families. It's a great opportunity for them to gain insights into the work culture of the USA, improve their English, and make connections in the local community. Some participants also take English classes at the Portland English Language Academy. Most students on this program come from France, Finland, and Spain.

Over the years, ANDEO interns have volunteered for a wide range of non-profit organizations including OMSI, Girls Inc of NW Oregon, Pixie Project, Portland Tennis & Education, Children's Healing Art Project, Impact NW, and City Repair.

Basic responsibilities

Volunteers require their own private room, access to a study area, 3 meals a day (self-serve breakfast, food for them to pack a lunch, and dinner together with the family), and internet access as well as regular contact with your family. The last part is especially important, because interns are here to make a lasting connection with their community, and they really want to practice their English and experience American culture from an insider's perspective. Host families receive a monthly stipend to help cover hosting expenses. If you are interested in hosting a student on this program, we suggest that you apply for a short-term hosting experience first. It is a great way to find out how hosting fits into your everyday life.

Commute

The commute to the volunteer's internship should be less than 60 minutes on public transportation.

Are you connected to a non-profit organization that could use the help of an ANDEO volunteer? We're always looking to expand our network of non-profits and our interns have a wide range of skills and interests. Email us at hayley@andeo.org to let us know!
