Otavalo

We started our first weekend in Ecuador with a trip to Otavalo--about a two hour drive north from Quito. We stopped at a small monument showing the middle of the world. <i think we are going to another one a different day that´s more of a big deal. Once we arrived in Otavalo our first item of business was shopping at the Otavalo Indian Market. The girls were excited to get their shopping on and had a good time bargaining with the natives. (They even asked for more time to go back for one last gift!)

From there we went to a waterfall and got to walk over a suspension bridge. There was even some jumping up and down for a little thrill.

Finally, we went to an indigenous woman´s house to try cuy (guinea pig) and have a huge meal. They kept bringing more and more courses (four in all). We were taught about the traditional clothing and even had a man stop in to show us a dance for the festival of the sun (being summer solstice today).
